Taming the Waddle- A How To
The side to side sway of a pregnant woman in motion is endearing. That is as long as you aren't the actual pregnant woman. When you start logging more left-right miles than forward ones, you know you are officially waddling.
I have put together this little How-To (or how-not-to) for the benefit of pregnant mothers everywhere.
The Why of the Waddle:We can blame it on the hormones. Don't we blame everything on the hormones? Global warming? Must be the hormones. Crying over a stack of dirty dishes? Must be the hormones. Food going bad in the fridge? Hormones. But this one is legit. The hips are falling apart. Literally. Hormones cause all the ligaments in your hips to stretch and the cartilage to soften. A big ole baby has to pass through there, remember? And so, the way is prepared. But it leads to soreness in the hips and the classic waddle. Lovely.
Most of the time, around the house I just go with it. I sway and lumber around not caring how long it takes me to get across the room and definitely not caring how clumsy I appear. Oh my goodness, gracefulness went out the window many moons ago. But there are public situations where I would prefer to appear a bit more controlled. The side to side saunter isn't necessarily what I'm going for. So I try with all my might to appear to be a normal walking human being. Here is what I have come up with.
Concentration: This is huge. Diverting your body from the natural way that it wants to cross the room is no small feat. This is going to take some serious focus. So gather your thoughts, pour every ounce of brain energy that you have into this. You may want to avoid conversing. This is no time to multi-task.
Eyes: Now, following the theme of concentration, it might help you to focus your eyes on a specific point on the other side of the room near your destination. Lock on. Don't look to the left or the right. Again, we need to concentrate here.
Posture: This is the time to practice everything your mother taught you. She didn't remind you to "stand up straight" for nothing. She had foresight. This is the moment to call upon that wisdom and put it into practice. So, tuck those hips back under yourself. Pull in whatever abs are holding on for dear life under that belly. Chest up, shoulders back. Whew! This is hard isn't it?!
Motion: Ok, here we go. Now the most important thing is to keep those legs in line. They are going to want to turn out and go the path of least resistance, but we need to bring them under submission. At least until we get across the room. Take it slow, one foot in front of the other in a straight line. Keep the head up, keep the shoulders back. Avoid scowling. Seriously, you are going to want to scowl.
Once you have made it to your destination across the room, find a chair. That was a high impact workout, you deserve to sit down. Make sure you don't do too much too soon. You might want to work your way up from a few steps to a walk across the room. Eventually you may even be able to shop for an hour or so with out waddling. That is for the advanced student though, so don't push yourself.
I hope this was an informative tutorial. I am my own student, trying my best to glide across the room in this distorted body of mine. If you see me and I am walking, please don't try to talk to me. I'm concentrating.

Seven Weird Things About Me
So, I asked Johnny if he could help me out a bit, and tell me some weird things about me, which he had NO PROBLEM doing! Hmmm. Actually, to my credit, he could only think of three.
Here goes.
#1. I cannot stand the way hands and feet feel when they've been in the water too long and have gotten wrinkely!! Ooo, that gives me the shivers. And I think that anyone that it doesn't bother, is a little weird! LOL
#2. I have a slight OCD when it comes to cleaning my house. *I can't just straighten up, I have to CLEAN! For instance, the other night Johnny and I were cleaning the kitchen up after supper and he cleared the table and loaded the dishwasher, which made things appear clean, but I had to move everything on the counters and wipe it all down and, get this, clean the top of the dish soap dispenser!! And I had him sit on the floor and straighten up two of my cabinets that were driving me absolutely insane! (A place for everything and everything IN IT'S PLACE!!) And I also wasn't able to believe my house was completely clean a few years ago, because my attic was unorganized. I spent about an hour up there, stacking things and lining them up and making my ATTIC look nice and neat!! *Because of this fact, my house is either a complete mess or spotless!! And it doesn't just apply to inside either. Right now, the fact that my burn barrels aren't lined up... hmm mm, not good! I'll have to have Johnny fix that when he gets home.
#3. I love, crave and, of course, eat lemons.
#4. I eat a banana with my cheetos! Mmm mmm mm m mmmm!
#5. I mow my lawn twice a week. But I don't just mow it. I mow it at an angle and then I go back over it the opposite way and bag it! My neighbors always teased me about that.
#6. I have a dent in my head! When I was three, my mom took me for a ride on a three-wheeler and it flipped over on me. It was a very tramatic moment in my life, although I don't remember much about it, since, you know, it was a head injury and all! Johnny likes to 'show it off' to people! "did you ever feel the dent in her head?" "No, honey, we hadn't gotten to that yet, we're still talking about the fact that...
#7. I can pick stuff up with my toes." It's a very convenient 'weirdness'. It has saved me ALOT of bending over, which would be too much exercise for me, especially in my current state! Oh, and I can pinch with them too, which Johnny LOVES!! : } Hee hee!
And that is about it! Everything else about me is completely, 100% normal. How about you? Any oddities you would like to share about yourself with all of bloggityville? I am tagging Janelle, Ruth, and Melisa. Have fun!
Piano Recital
Her first piano recital.
The pictures I took of the actual recital are frustratingly blurry for some reason, so I took a few extras afterwards. Here they are. If I would have been thinking I would have video taped it with my camera, but I didn't think of it since Johnny was running the camcorder.
Row, Row, Row Your Boat
I've Got The Joy, Joy, Joy
This is her wonderful piano teacher, Mrs. Cox!
She absolutely adores her teacher and loves piano lessons. She has done so good this year with it. Everybody complimented her on how natural she looked up there. She wasn't nervous and that's something else they all noticed. Now she can't wait for her next recital! We are so proud of her!! She's so big!

SURPRISE!!
We went in to the doctor yesterday for another ultrasound and a basic check-up and FINALLY found out, for sure, what we're having!!
I will start by telling you all that I married into a family of 9 boys and 4 girls. (I, of course, got the cream of the crop!!) Of those 13 kids, so far, there are 10 boys and 11 girls. Making 21 grandkids for my in-laws! My husband's dad grew up in a family of 7 boys and 8 girls, and his mom was one of 6 girls with 5 brothers.
I, on the other hand, had one sister. My dad had 1 half brother and 2 sisters and my mom had 2 brothers.
Now, my sister has 4 boys and 1 girl and I have 1 girl and 1 boy.
Bringing the score to: 39 boys - 35 girls
Now that you are thoroughly confused, I think I'll wait till I can post some pictures and give you all a little time to contemplate WHAT IT IS!! HEE HEE (wicked laugh!)

It never ends!
You ladies must not be able to see the same thing that everyone else does. I guess the pictures may be a little deceiving, or you all are just TOO nice!
Last night after church, Johnny wanted to go to Wal-Mart to get some stuff to clean out our pool. Well, upon walking into Wal-Mart, he tried to convince me to use the little 'hoveround' wheelchair thingy, but I refused. I'm not yet crippled, or, contrary to popular opinion, so rotund that I can't maneuver myself around!
So I convinced him that I would be just fine walking and NOT drawing more attention to myself than I already do, when we walked into the store and past the 'Welcome-to-Wal-Mart' lady! Except, she didn't say, "Welcome to Wal-Mart!!"
She said, "Do you need a ride?"
"Um, no thank you, he (pointing to Johnny) was just trying to get me to use one, but I think I'll be okay."
"Well, I was just telling that other lady, when you walked in, 'Oh, she looks like she's about to have that baby! If she goes into labor here, I'm outta here! Now, you see, I worked in a hospital for 25 years, but I think I'd still leave!"
"I think everything's going to be okay, but if anything does happen, I'll be looking for you ;)"
Now, mind you, I didn't tell her that we usually spend alot of time in the store when we do go, but I have never yet been there for THREE MONTHS, so she wouldn't have anything to worry about! I just smiled, like I do to everyone else that compliments me in such loving, unintrusive ways, and moved on about my business. Careful not to waddle too much.
Oh, it's been a wonderful journey! And not even close to being over!!
